This building was founded by testamentary arrangement of D. Sancho I it would come to adapt to a Convent house for the Bernardas during the 16th century. It possesses one only nave covered with a wooden ceiling with coffer painted with emblematic. –the walls are covered with pattern and figurative glazed tiles, altarpieces in golden mannerism carving framing paintings. The Manueline door giving access to the choir stands out, as well as the ceiling coffer paintings, the glazed tiles from the 18th century that cover the walls.

Although the history of ecclesial space point to a medieval Foundation dating back to the 12th century, the Church of Cárquere is structurally a fusion of styles that reveal crucial periods in their development as the monastic space, now linked to the Canons, now to the Jesuits. According to legend, it was founded due to the miracle, attributed to our Lady of Cárquere at the request of Bishop Egas Moniz de Ribadouro, of healing of the legs of Dom Afonso Henriques.

This is a Masculine Monastery from the Order of Cistercians dated from the 12th century. The façade is imposing and the towers grant it a solemn air.

Fort built in 1676, after the end of the Restoration War that aimed to reinforce with its guns the defence of the coast near Setúbal. It was deactivated in 1853.
