The Miguel Torga Space was conceived as a space for art, culture and literature, intended not only to evoke and perpetuate the work of one of the great Portuguese authors of the 20th century, but also to testify to his deep connection to the Douro and Trás-os-Montes and projecting the region’s identity internationally.

It is believed that this location, known as Fraga of the Cat and located north of the village of Walls, about 1100 meters above sea level, is an ancient settlement. It is a small elevation in the middle of the plateau of Mourela, where several ceramic fragments were found consistent with ancient occupation of the site.
