A big playhouse, with theatre events, concerts and ballet all year and opera season between January and July. Located at the Chiado, this building, inspired at the Scala of Milan and the Saint Charles in Naples, has sober, well dimensioned façade and a beautiful rococo inside decorated with paintings.

This is an example of civil architecture, educative and cultural (theatre and cinema), with an eclectic style. The building has been totally demolished, between 1988 and 1993, and only the façade of the Rua Nova da Trindade (street) was spared. The demolition made visible a section of the wall pre-existing, that is now inside the construction.
