The former Convento das Mónicas was founded in 1586 by the Abranches family, being then donated to the nuns. It kept is original drawing until the earthquake of 1755 when part of the church collapsed. After the extinction of the religious orders in 1836, the State transformed the building into a reformatory and later into a women’s prison.
Antigo Colégio dos Meninos Orfãos / Recolhimento do Amparo

Also called the Recolhimento do Amparo, it was founded by Queen Catarina and rebuilt by Dom José. The main façade of the building is covered with white squared stone. At the interior yard there is a rococo portico that gives access to the main staircase of the building. It recently suffered adaptation works and became a police station.

The portal of the convent with monumental porch and portal padded Church flanked by two fluted columns, upon which runs an architrave. The interior of the Church is rich in tiles, paintings and carvings. Highlights also the coat of arms of infanta d. Maria on the cornice.
